Artwork Inspired By Po-Ching Fang

Po-Ching Fang

  • His work is functional

  • Many individual cups that are rested on top of a base

  • Simplified forms, such as straight and wavy lines

  • Organic and geometric shapes, especially for his bases

  • Regular and irregular patterns, that are employed with various contradictory surfaces and colors that include earthy roughness and refined smoothness.

  • He is known for making tea sets, cups, and trays

  • Influenced and inspired by the environment (nature)

  • Big contrast between manmade and naturally made

I chose Po-Ching Fang because I like the way he creates his cups and bases. I love his glaze choices, and the contrast between natural and man-made. Also, I like how a simple idea of a cup with a base, can be so unique. I incorporated his style by having 2 bases, with many cups resting on top of each base. The bases are glazed very earthy colors, as well as the cups. I also tried to use similar glaze colors, but at the same time, I tried to put my own artsitic voice into my ceramic piece.
